Earn from your AlphaESS home battery while supporting the grid

AlphaESS UK and Axle Energy have partnered to give eligible AlphaESS residential battery customers access to the Axle Energy Virtual Power Plant. When the electricity grid needs additional flexibility, participating AlphaESS batteries can respond together and customers are rewarded for qualifying exports.

Under Axle’s current beta programme, eligible customers can earn £1 per kWh exported during qualifying grid stress events, with a guaranteed minimum of £10 a month. Outside those events, customers can keep their normal battery schedule or use Axle’s fully optimised mode where supported.

Virtual Power Plant

Your AlphaESS battery connected to a wider energy network

A Virtual Power Plant, or VPP, connects many distributed energy assets so they can respond collectively. Through the AlphaESS UK and Axle integration, eligible home batteries can be coordinated when the electricity system needs extra support.

Axle can request available energy from participating batteries during selected grid stress events. The combined response helps balance electricity supply and demand and can help the grid make better use of renewable generation. Each home contributes only within its own battery and service limits.

Eligible customers can find Axle Energy in the Partner’s VPP Plans area of the AlphaESS app or use the direct Axle sign-up route. Axle checks tariff information, smart-meter details and battery connectivity before enrolment.

During a qualifying grid event, Axle requests available stored energy within the agreed service settings and the operating limits of the AlphaESS system.

Axle credits qualifying exports at the current programme rate. When the event ends, the battery returns to its normal operating strategy.

Will Axle work with every AlphaESS battery?

No. Eligibility depends on the exact AlphaESS product, firmware, smart meter, communications, location and current Axle requirements. Customers need an eligible battery, a compatible smart meter and a suitable internet connection. The live sign-up process checks the system before enrolment.

Will participation affect my supplier tariff or Feed-in Tariff?
Axle currently states that the service works with any energy supplier, tariff or Feed-in Tariff arrangement. Customers should still review their own tariff, export agreement and any third-party battery scheduling service before joining.
How do AlphaESS installers benefit?
Installers can present the Axle integration as an additional benefit of an eligible AlphaESS home battery. Under the current referral programme, the installer receives £25 and the referred customer receives a £25 sign-up bonus when the customer joins through the installer’s personalised link.
Who should I contact if there is a problem?
