In this partner Spotlight, we speak with the MSER team about their journey into renewables, why they chose AlphaESS as their energy storage partner, and how they are helping customers across Scotland embrace a more self-sufficient energy future.
Can you tell us about the origins of your company and the key services you offer? How did you venture into the field of renewable energy, specifically battery energy storage systems?
Originally an electrical company, we ventured into renewables when the sites we were working on started installing Solar PV & Battery Storage.
Please provide some information around the size
of company and your team?
We are a small business of 14 members of staff. A lot of family members are part of the staff and we have grown the company from electrical works to electrical, solar PV & battery storage, slate/roof works and joinery. We are also looking to expand this further by offering other services in the near future.
In which geographical areas do you primarily operate, and what would you say are people’s attitudes, both home and commercial, to renewable energy?
North East Scotland. People are open to renewables and particularly where installations can save them money. Some people just like the idea of contributing to a greener planet but financial incentives definitely help. People are looking to be as self sufficient as possible.
What motivated your decision to partner with AlphaESS UK for battery energy storage solutions? How has this partnership enhanced the value you provide to your customers?
We have found that AlphaESS manufacture a great range of BESS products from small-scale domestic to large-scale commercial.
From your experience, what sets AlphaESS products apart from other energy storage solutions in the market? Can you share a particularly interesting and successful installation story involving an AlphaESS system?
Ease of commissioning and availability of technical services. We paralleled 2x 20kW Alpha Smile G3 T20 Inverters with battery storage. On commissioning, we had a few technical issues, which the Technical Support guided us through and rectified promptly on the job.
How do you stay informed about the latest developments in the energy sector, and how do these trends impact your business strategies and the solutions you offer?
The smart tariffs can be difficult to keep up with - I am always keeping an eye out for changes in cheap rates or export rates. Changes in this can affect how systems are designed to optimise financial incentives.
What advice would you give to someone considering integrating battery energy storage into their home or business? How does AlphaESS facilitate this transition?
Our advice would be to begin by understanding their energy consumption patterns and long-term goals. It is most effective when tailored to the specific needs of the home or business, with or without Solar PV. Alpha ESS provide advanced, reliable and scalable energy storage solutions for both residential & commercial installations that can integrate seamlessly with Solar PV installations. Intelligent energy management technology, remote monitoring and flexible system designs allow the customer to take greater control of their energy consumption rather easily.
Can the UK hit its Net Zero targets? If you were energy minister for the UK, what would you be doing?
Yes, but as long as it is affordable for homes and businesses. Government-funded grants and low-interest finance make it more accessible to a huge part of the population who are struggling in the current economic climate. Businesses are struggling enough with rising costs and business rates - installing systems that allow businesses to store and generate their own power increases energy independence.
Looking ahead, how do you see renewable energy and battery energy storage evolving in the UK’s energy landscape? What are your company’s plans for growth and adaptation in this changing environment?
We are currently expanding the range of renewable energy solutions we offer, while also moving into larger-scale commercial installations. As the renewable energy sector continues to grow, we believe sustainable energy systems will become an essential part of every household. We look forward to playing a key role in helping homes and businesses transition to a greener future.
